Q. How does the ABS System work on my car?

A. During emergency braking, the braking force created by the driver may be greater than the tyre can handle: causing the wheel to lock. The vehicle then becomes unstable and unsteerable. The stopping distance increases.

With vehicles equipped with an Antilock Braking System, the ABS control unit constantly evaluates the speed of all wheels. If the ABS wheel speed sensors placed at each wheel detect a lock-up, ABS intervenes within milliseconds by controlling the braking pressure at each individual wheel. This prevents the wheels from locking during braking, ensuring steerability and stability combined with the shortest possible braking distance.

Failure of the ABS wheel speed sensors or ABS pick-up (reluctor) rings is becoming more and more common. UK Parts Direct offer a cost effective solution to solve these problems.
