We have created this page to provide you with answers to common ABS Hub technical questions we are asked. If you cannot find the answer you require, please email the Brake Doctors on brakedoctors@ukpartsdirect.com or use our Brake Doctors LIVE Chat Function.
Q. I have heard it is important to mount my new pd ABS Hub a certain way?
A. It is possible to mount Active ABS Hubs backwards, rendering the sensor inoperative. Pay particular attention to the instructions enclosed with this type of sensor.
Q. After removing the old ABS Hub Unit, there seems to be a lot of rust or corrosion. Should I clean this off?
A. After removal of the old hub, make sure the steering knuckle is clean from rust. Excessive rust (corrosion) can lead to improper seating of the hub assembly.
Q. Should I be careful when routing the integral cable of the ABS Hub Unit?
A. During installation it is critical the cable / connector is routed correctly and not pinched in the knuckle. It is also critical the wiring harness is connected / secured correctly.
Q. Do I need to worry about water ingress into the ABS Hub Unit?
A. All pd ABS Hub Units are fitted with a "Weather Seal". This must be fitted correctly to prevent water intrusion which can damage the unit.
Q. Is there anything else I should check after fitting a new hub?
A. Yes, you must check the hub nut torque (please refer to the Manufacturers recommended Torque setting). UK Parts Direct accepts no responsibility for consequences related to incorrectly torqued ABS Hub Units.
Incorrect torque settings can damage the sensor cap and allow for water intrusion, along with premature bearing failure.
Q. I have fitted a new pd ABS Hub Unit but my ABS Light is still on?
A. If the vehicle's ECU has been reset and there is still an ABS Light / Fault Code showing, please check the ABS Wiring Harness for breaks and/or resistance failures. A resistance check should be carried out from the ABS Module to the end of the ABS Wiring Harness Connector. We are seeing an increasing number of vehicle's with damaged wiring harnesses / connectors.
